On a rain soaked Sunday I gathered with a Book Club of readers who'd come to The House on Margarita Street benefit for the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame back in February to talk about The Fourteenth of September. We talked about early feminism, a war none of them had been alive for, and the similarities between now and the volatile year of l969. We found many, many points of relevance. It was great fun talking with such a smart and enthusiastic group. And a kick being someone who could answer questions they'd always wanted to ask about the times, the draft and how life had changed (and hasn't yet) for women. They agreed their lives were impacted by what went on then-- A great historical fiction experience.
